I've had my G1 for several months now, and I was also extremely pleased right away. I've been consistently happy with it since, too. If you like tower defense games, RoboDefense is the best I've found. There's a free version, and the paid app has more levels. Very addictive. ChompSMS is better than the integrated messaging app, and it's free. You can customize the appearance, but you can also specify a different LED color for SMS alerts. Mine flashes green for email, red for SMS, etc. OpenHome extends your Android desktop quite a bit. It slows some phones down, but with a Droid you should be fine. Lots of font & theme options.
