Cox cable SpeedBoost irritations

Cox Cable (which I am, unfortunately, a customer of) has a delightful SpeedBoost technology. This technology works by providing a lot of bandwidth at the beginning of a given TCP session, then choking it down as time goes by. While this does not make a difference in many applications, one thing that is killing me is the effect it has during peak periods for streaming video- specifically, Netflix Watch It Now titles.

I understand this technology and I understand what they are doing. The average user gets a rock-solid and fast browsing experience, as the majority of web browsing (including small videos like YouTube) load within the initial window of high bandwidth. Obviously this is a good thing. Big downloads get hit, which is not too bad. Streaming, on the other hand, takes a BIG hit. The tinfoil-hat part of my brain is wondering if this is guerrilla anti-advertising for Netflix, Hulu, AppleTV etc.

While I understand the business case for doing something tht benefits the majority of their customers, I really wish there was some way for me to opt out.  Anyone have a workaround?

    Dear Ben,

I notice that Netflix craps out right in the middle and if HD is available, it MIGHT show up.

Cox Cable truly stifles my connections, as well, and I am wondering if you found a solution yet?
